Self-portrait, with love

December 25, 2010 By Alana

Reverb10. December 25.

Photo – a present to yourself. Sift through all the photos of you from the past year. Choose one that best captures you; either who you are, or who you strive to be. Find the shot of you that is worth a thousand words. Share the image, who shot it, where, and what it best reveals about you. (from Tracey Clark of the amazing Shutter Sisters).

There aren’t many pictures of me this year. I hid from the camera, unable to love the face I saw there, the body so heavy with life, then loss. Of the few that exist, this is the only one I love. Without reservation. This is me beaming joy and love. I’m a little shiny, wearing my goofy grin and not a stitch of makeup, sitting next to the little girl I love most in the world.

I want there to be more of this me next year.

The me that’s not afraid to be seen.

forget the shiny. forget the lack of makeup – i didn’t notice either of those things. i looked at that photo before reading the first word, and i let myself be completely captivated by that beautiful smile and those wise eyes. beautiful, i tell you. beautiful.

and ada? well, she’s nothing short of adorable.

I really like that photo of you and like you I hide from the camera. I could only find a handful of photos this year but I want to be less camera shy this year and enjoy moments with my friends.

Beautiful post, beautiful picture, beautiful mom and daughter. I’m the picture taker, and Like you, this year didn’t want to be photographed. Still looking for one I like… now in 2009? That would be easy, since my daughter got married and the pros were in charge.
    Keep smiling. sbr

I love this photo. And the words “I want there to be more of this me next year. ” I hope your year holds more moments like this. And I look forward to reading about them.

please do steal our anniversary album tradition. And though the photo taken of the two of you this year may show the wall of sadness behind your eyes, next year’s might just be different. Blessings.
