Tonight the information highways are full of today’s shooting of Rep Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona and her staff. My heart breaks for the victims – for everyone who witnessed the violence. My heart breaks because there is so much hate, so much misdirected anger, so little ability to listen, to bridge divides. My heart breaks at the unwillingness of those who have pointed guns publicly to accept any responsibility for this act. My heart breaks for those whose grieving began today.
We can continue to feed our anger, point fingers and grow hatred. We can choose to allow this act to touch us deeply, to turn our faces toward the sun of compassion, to let the change we desperately need begin with us. Or we can do nothing, bury our feelings in our vices, go shopping, have a drink, yell at the kids and let someone else clean up the mess.
The choice is ours.
Moment to moment, the choice is always ours.
What do you want your world to look like?

And the only thing I can add to your post is at the very end………. And how do we want to leave the world for our children?

Cheri basically nailed it. It’s a such a frightening world and I don’t know how we’re going to make it better. But all we can do is try.

Such tragedy. There is far too much of it and violence has become so insanely horrible. It’s sad it really is… I am reading a book “The Hour I First Believed” by Wally Lamb and it is Fiction but contains much detail about the Columbine shootings. That happened when I was a senior in high school and I still remember the shock that something like that could even happen. All I can say is that there needs to be more people out there that embrace EVERYONE – choose to not hate people even if they don’t AGREE with their way of life or their beliefs or political views. Our world needs to be more loving and stop inviting so much hate into our lives and hearts. I agree with the above posters… how do we want the world to be for our children? I hope a much better, brighter, loving world! <3 (((hugs))) <3
