Transformation Talk with Tova Gold

March 7, 2013 By Alana

Welcome to Transformation Talk. Every Thursday for a year, starting in September 2012, I’ll post an interview with someone who is a force for good in the world. These men and women have either deepened their passion or found their calling after experiencing a loss, trauma or diagnosis.

I want to broaden the conversation around grief and its transformative power. My hope is that in their words you’ll find echoes of your story. In their inspired actions, you’ll see yourself and your immense possibility.

*Special Request: The technology of Skype is amazing and imperfect. Please listen with your heart and forgive the occasional blips on the screen.

Today’s interview is with Tova Gold, the vision and sparkle behind FindingMyMuchness.com. I love her story. She went from being a passionate entrepreneur in her twenties, to playing it safe in a (good) job after her company closed. It took the stillbirth of her two daughters, Sunshine and Daisy, the grief and the rainbow pregnancy that followed, to bring her back to herself, back to her “muchness”.

Running time is 32 minutes. Bio and link to download audio version are below. If you’re receiving this via email, click through the title to watch the video.

Tova Gold is a New York based artist and product designer. Due to Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome, her second pregnancy ended at 23.5 weeks with the loss of her identical twin girls, forever nicknamed Sunshine & Daisy. Her desire to re-find some form of joy while pregnant with her rainbow daughter led her to start wearing sparkly, colorful clothing to break the gray and darkness that surrounded her.

Though it seemed almost silly at the time, she found that infusing her world with light and color on the outside helped her connect with her light and color on the inside. After hearing the quote “I used to be much muchier, but then I lost my Muchness” Tova embarked on a self-imposed 30 Day Muchness Challenge, wearing sparkle and sharing her MuchnessMoments on Facebook. It launched The Muchness Movement, at FindingMyMuchness.com & it has grown to become her life’s work: To share the knowledge that there are beauty, light and healing in our little MuchnessMoments.

*This week Skype wouldn’t cooperate at all. (Mercury Retrograde anyone?) Undaunted, we turned to a good old fashioned telephone call. Right-click or control-click on the link below to download and listen. If you’re reading this via email, you  might need to click through the title to access the audio link. Running time is just shy of 27 minutes.

This week’s interview is with healer, coach and mentor Jenny Karns. She is the creator of the upcoming tele-summit, Remembering Our Magic and a delightful friend of mine. Today Jenny talks about the turning point in her 20’s that took her from being practically house-bound with agoraphobia to joyfully serving on a grand scale.

Transformation Talk with Jenny Karns

Jenny Karns is a healer, writer, health and business coach, teacher, speaker, mentor, avid dreamer, voice for the ancestors, and passionate voice for women’s empowerment and the creation of a thriving global economy.

As a child Jenny was always connected to the magical realms.  By discovering the theater and performing arts at age 8 she learned to keep the magic of spirituality and imagination alive and active in her life.  Jenny performed in numerous local and professional productions as she was growing up and then went on to graduate from USC with a major in theater and film.  She both acted and worked behind the scenes on sitcoms and movies for 8 years after college.  When working behind the scenes Jenny had time to read and study her newest passion: Quantum Healing!  When the writers strike happened in 2007, she decided to go to the Institute for Psycho Structural Balancing, a modern day “Hogwarts,” where she became certified in Massage, Polarity, and Reiki.  In 2008 she started her own healing business, Body Temple Healing, where she went on to help thousands of people find relief from pain and gain clarity in finding their life’s purpose.

In 2009 Jenny began taking multiple courses in business in an effort to find a way to help more people.  During this time she produced workshops for speakers and stepped into her own work as a teacher, speaker, and mentor.  She began privately coaching and mentoring spiritual teachers about how to grow their business and make a bigger global impact with their message.  She also continued to serve her local community through her hands on healing business as well as beginning a seven book series of children’s stories.

Jenny is a healer, teacher, writer, poet, dancer, singer, life artist, and joyfully willing collaborator in every way.  She has a wildly open heart and a deep commitment to authentic communication with herself, others, and the divine.  She does not believe that anything is outside the realm of possibility.  If you can imagine it, you can create it. Jenny is committed to a violence free, thriving global economy and intends to do everything she can to be a part of creating that.

Find her and register for the tele-summit at RememberingOurMagic.com.

P.S. I’ll be speaking about grief, love and self-care on March 22 at 12pm, PST. Details at the above link. I’d love for you to be there!

Transformation Talk with Cynthia Haynes

As a perfect follow up to last week, today’s interview is with photographer and breast cancer survivor Cynthia Haynes. I met Cynthia at a workshop last December and immediately liked her. When I finally looked at her website, my jaw hit the floor. I couldn’t wait to share her with you. She is an amazing talent and a bright light. Enjoy!

Bio and links to audio-only version are below. Running time is 24 1/2 minutes. If you’re reading this via email, click through the title to view video.

And now, in Cynthia’s own words:
Mine is not a story just about breast cancer, loss and grief. It’s a story about leaving behind a life riddled with regrets —
and stepping into a life of extravagant risk and joy.

How to begin? I’ll start by sharing what’s happened, in the past 2,000 days.

: I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer and had massive doses of chemotherapy and a double mastectomy. I survived.
: My mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She did not.
: My brother’s wife gave birth to a stillborn son. We grieved.
: My marriage ended. It was time.
: I discovered a talent for portrait photography. The fewer clothes, the better.
: I embarked on a whirlwind voyage to meet and study with my artistic heroes.
: I saw the light dance in the Venetian canals.
: I left my long-time job in the legal profession. It felt like a tomb. And I am not dead.
: I launched my photography business and virtual studio.
: I filled my portfolio with mothers and daughters, survivors and seductresses.
: I began the I AM series, to capture the strength of fellow cancer warriors and all amazing women.
: I captured the grace of the grasses in Africa.
: I held my first public art show. To my delight, people came.
: I took a deep breath. Then ten thousand more.
: I am learning every day.
: And I am (still) alive.

I want to start a conversation series on bravery in life, love and business. Photo-journalistic travel adventures with wild women and friends.

And I want to take your picture and tell your story.

I want you to come alive, and come as you are. I want you to see and appreciate all of your sensual power.

And whatever you’re aching to do, be or become . . . I want to remind you that there will never be a more perfect time than this moment. Because this moment is the only certainty.

Work with me – and see yourself shine.

xo,
Cynthia
