Transformation Talk with Dina Proctor

July 11, 2013 By Alana

Welcome to Transformation Talk. Every Thursday for a year, starting in September 2012, I’ll post an interview with someone who is a force for good in the world. These men and women have either deepened their passion or found their calling after experiencing a loss, trauma or diagnosis.

I want to broaden the conversation around grief and its transformative power. My hope is that in their words you’ll find echoes of your story. In their inspired actions, you’ll see yourself and your immense possibility.

*Special Request: The technology of Skype is amazing and imperfect. Please listen with your heart and forgive the occasional blips on the screen.

This week’s interview is with author Dina Proctor, whose book Madly Chasing Peace: How I Went From Hell to Happy in Nine Minutes a Day has garnered rave reviews from such heavy hitters in the personal growth field as Jack Canfield, Janet Bray Attwood and Carol Kline. I had the good fortune of meeting Dina in person and she’s truly lovely. I’m honored to have her sharing her story with us today.

Dina Proctor is a mind-body connection expert, engaging speaker and author of “Madly Chasing Peace: How I Went From Hell to Happy in Nine Minutes a Day.” Dina has taken her journey from hitting an emotional rock bottom through struggling with addictions, food issues and depression, to having now found a consistent happiness (little known to most people) and turned it into a simple, practical method for others to change their own lives.

Quite by accident she discovered what she calls “3×3 Meditation” (3 minutes, 3 times a day), which has been the catalyst for her own (and now her clients’) transformation. From weight loss and banishing addictive cravings to reconstructing relationships, this easy and yet incredibly effective method has caught the attention and support of Jack Canfield and Bruce Lipton, PhD, among others, and the media. Dina’s raw and real ability to share herself and her story so openly, along with the power of her 3×3’s, has enabled countless others to begin on the path to wellness in their own lives.

Today’s interview is with award-winning author, speaker and spiritual teacher Ayn Cates Sullivan. I’m going to say up front that I love this interview and I recognize that it might be challenging for some. Ayn talks about how she and her father healed their cancer and how that led her to follow her heart on a deeply spiritual path, which includes an experience in the divine light. Even if some of her story seems impossible to you, I encourage you to listen through to the end where you’ll find gentle wisdom that can apply to all of us. (Also, Ayn talks about the impact our ancestral line has on us from a spiritual point of view. There is new research in the scientific field of epigenetics that’s saying a similar thing – it’s mind-blowing.)

Showing up with an open heart

July 2, 2013 By Alana

It’s late. The house is quiet after a day of semi-organized chaos. Eighteen of us together is like herding cats.

We’re visiting with my husband’s family. His big sister turned 50 this week. I remember meeting her over a decade ago and wondering if she was as nice as she seemed. She is.

I married into an amazing family. There’s so much love here, in spite of (or perhaps because of) the personality quirks.

I’m leaving Friday for Portland. Chris Guillebeau’s World Domination Summit is taking place this weekend. I believe the title puts all of us attending on the FBI watch list. It’s a big conference for those of us in the blogosphere, many of us entrepreneurs. A chance to connect live with people met first in the virtual world. I’ve wanted to go the last two years and now that it’s days away I’m excited and strangely detached.

I have no idea what to expect. I know there are people I’m eager to hug, people whose eyes I’m excited to look into, people I want spend time with. I imagine there are old stories that I’ll have to consciously move away from and old wounds that might ooze a little. There’s been massive healing in my life recently and I’m curious to see how it carries into a big event like this. I’ll be bringing my self-care practices, my willingness to trust that everything is perfect and my open heart.

If you’ll be there, I hope we’ll find each other. Please introduce yourself if you see me – I’d love to look you in the eye and give you a hug too.

Wherever you’ll be this weekend, I hope you continue to re-tell your stories so they’re a little less painful, love yourself when your wounds begin to ooze, and show up to life with an open heart.

This week’s interview is with Erin Giles, business philanthropy expert and founder of End Sex Trafficking Day. While this part of Erin’s story doesn’t include a death or medical diagnosis, many of us feel intense grief during financial struggles. What I love most about Erin’s story is how the simple act of allowing her heart to be deeply touched by an issue led her to taking inspired action, which in turn led to business success all while having a positive impact in the world.
